Imagine That Polar Love

Over at Imagine That there is a Progressive Freebie challenge every month.
The digi pack we were given this month is Polar Love which has a cute image and some lovely sentiments. I decided it was a wintery theme and that it could work for a Christmas card if you used the right paper with it.

The image is coloured with Promarkers & Flexmarkers adding a glitter gel pen for the little hearts and some glitter glue for the large one and for the snow.

The papers are DCWV for the background and Papermania for the foreground. I used a sketch from The House That Stamps built for the layout adding some gold lame ribbon. The sentiment has been cut using a Spellbinders D’lite die, inked around the edges and a couple of self adhesive gems to accent. Finally the gold snowflake is a laser cut shape that was a magazine freebie from a couple of years ago. I coloured it with a gold Krylon pen which I haven’t used for a long time and was surprised it had not dried up…. go me for using up some old stash!

I am very late adding my card as both myself and hubby are absolutely full of cold. The last few days have been a constant barrage of coughing, sneezing, runny noses and feeling pretty lousy. I really wanted to get in on time though so I can take part with March’s image (OMG how did it get to be March already?)

If you don’t already participate in Kris’s challenges you don’t know what you are missing. There will be a new one starting tomorrow so why don’t you head on over there……

From The Heart Progressive Challenge

I absolutely love Faith Skrdla’s images and try whenever possible to take part in the Progressive Freebie challenge over at From The Heart Stamps. This month we were given the Birthday Candle Birdbrain set which came with oodles of sentiments. This card has been made with a friend in mind who has a quirky sense of humour, is about 10 years older than me and we have known for many years.

I have used the current sketch at I{heart} Sketches for the layout.
The image is coloured using Promarkers and Flexmarkers and mounted onto a scrap of black card which is recycled from embossing folder packaging. I mounted the image and the sentiment on the same way and added 3d foam for dimension.

The card front is covered with a paper from the Birdsong pack from Papermania. The yellow spotty one is from Craftwork Cards. Used some thin green card for punching along the top edge and added some gorgeous spotty ribbon that was part of a prize I had recently from Really Reasonable Ribbon. Finally I added some red buttons with yellow waxed cord knotted through them.

Eventhough February is the shortest month I have been better organised than I was in January so not finishing it off right at the last minute. That’s progress compared to last month!

Materials Used in this Project are as follows:-
Card size – A5
Digi Image & Sentiment – Birthday Candle Birdbrain by From The Heart Stamps
Paper – Birdsong by Papermania & Craftwork Cards
Tools – Fiskars Treading Water punch
Embellishments – Buttons & Twine
Techniques – Punching, recycling

For this challenge I was allocated Alipeeps Art and I chose to use this image Miss Peony. I was attracted to the rather wistful look she has and for some reason I could see her being a rather sophisticated lady with grey hair. This then developed into an all silver and purple card. Funny how one thing sparks off the look of the whole card isn’t it?

The image is coloured with my beloved Promarkers and Flexmarkers and I added a Sakura glitter pen for silvery lines in the grey hair and accents on the face. I used a brand new die which was a Valentine’s day pressie from my husband (purchased by me of course!) I used a small Versamark pad to add some purple ink to the lighted coloured card. I felt this brought the colour from the flower in the hair out and made it more prominent.

The card base is a sheet of A4 card in a dark purple with a layer of silver pearlescent card. The patterned paper is from a First Edition pad which has encapsulated glitter so it is not too prominent.

I used the  February sketch from Paper Poppy  for the layout and added some sheer organza ribbon with some pretty Prima flowers, a silver beadcap and a glitter brad in the centre. The sentiment is a diecut to which I added some small gems and also used one for an earring on Miss Peony.

I am really pleased with how this card came out. Definitely ticks the girly box but also quite tame and sophisticated for me….

Materials Used in this Project are as follows:-
Card size – A5
Digi Image – Miss Peony by Alipeeps Art
Paper – Daydream pad by First Edition/Dovecraft,
Sentiment – Unknown diecut one
Tools – Spellbinders Nestabilties Heart Squares Die, Letraset Promarkers & Flexmarkers, Sakura clear glitterpen, Versamark ink pad
