A Rocking Birthday

Birdie Brown has a monthly challenge and is very generous with her freebies. This month we get to work with Rocking Doggie and the sentiment You Rock. They made the perfect partnership for an image from Di’s Digi Downloads that I bought to make a card for my Brother In Law. He has a drum kit and how often do you get a cute image with a drum kit?

I coloured the images and sentiment with Promarkers and Flexmarkers and added an extra decoupage layer with the little doggie and drum on the front image. The card from is covered with red paper form a magazine freebie. I added a panel of card from the Family Ties pad and wrapped some Airmal twine around it from Dovecraft. This panel is stuck down with thin 3d foam pads to allow for the thickness of the string underneath.

The image is matted onto some scrap card and then stuck down with more 3d foam. The sentiment panel is probably one of the very oldest embellishments I have from HOTP and it is embossed with gold foil on it. I know they were blooming expensive at the time, hence I’ve never used them.

The inside of the card has more of the same red paper and then the Rocking Doggie has been fussy cut and is rocking down a storm. The sentiment has been cut using a new Nestabilities D-lite die which is more ornate for small sentiments.

Materials Used in this card are as follows:-
Card Size – A5
Sentiment – You Rock by Birdie Brown
Paper – Family Ties First Edition pad and the red is a freebie from a magazine
Tools - Letraset Promarkers & Flexmarkers, 3d foam, Nestabilities D lite die Labels 1

Birdie Brown's DIY Dad

Birdie Brown has a monthly challenge and is very generous with her freebies. This month we get to work with DIY Dad. I thought it would make a great image for a new home card.

I used this weeks sketch from I {Heart to Sketch} for the layout as I thought the larger panel on the left would make a great wall that was being papered by DIY Dad.

I coloured the image with Promarkers and Flexmarkers in Browns and blues which are my favourite colours for a male themed card. I found some really really old papers from a Male orientated magazine pack that were perfect to go with it. I ‘wallpapered’ the panel leaving one roll curled up going down the wall. I cut the same length of paper as the first but added a core of scrap cardstock in the centre to strengthen it and then some of the strong red backed tape to make sure it doesn’t unfurl. I also added a roll of paper as an embellishment.

The brown cardstock is textured scraps from DCWV and I used a Nestabilities die to cut the sentiment panel which is a very old rub on and a punched house.

That’s my card for this month’s challenge and how on earth did it get to be the end of May already? I honestly do not know where this year is disappearing to……

Materials Used in this card are as follows:-
Card Size – 4 ½” Square
Image – DIY Dad by Birdie Brown
Sentiment – Rub on from stash

Camera & Little Bird

Birdie Brown has a monthly challenge and is very generous with her freebies. This month we get to work with Camera & Little Bird and we have 2 matching sentiments.

I chose a sketch from Can You Digi It which I thought was perfect as it reminded me of an old photograph. I covered the card blank in spotty paper from Papermania and cut a photograph shape from some black card.

I coloured the image with Promarkers and Flexmarkers keeping the camera in quite masculine colours. My hubby is a Canon man so the red ring was a nod to him. I created decoupage layers for the flower, the birdie and the ring on the camera. However somehow between colouring it and cutting it out downstairs and then making it to my craft room the ring totally disappeared, goodness only know where it went to. Believe me I looked everywhere! I am hoping It will come home and I can then stick it on, here’s hoping….. J

To finish off I used one of the sentiments, trimmed it into a banner shape as mounted on 3d foam. I distressed the edges of the card and the banner with a small inkpad and that declared it done (minus one decoupage layer…..)

Thanks Torico for running these challenges and for the gorgeous freebies you give us J

Materials Used in this card are as follows:-
Card Size – 6” x 4”
Paper – Licorice Sherbet by Papermania

Snowy Day

Birdie Brown is celebrating her 2nd birthday and has two challenges this month to celebrate. This card has been made for the 2nd challenge Anything Goes using a freebie from November called Snowy Day (which is still available, hop on over there to download this cutie)

I chose a sketch from The Critter Challenge for the layout and coloured the image with Promarkers and Flexmarkers adding some white gel pen to the snowflakes so they pop more.

The paper I have used is a wrapping paper from Paperchase which has silver metallic snowflakes on it. I thought I had used all this paper up but found a couple of small pieces left. It has been my most used ‘go to’ snowflake paper but it is a few years old now so don’t think I will be able to get any more

The sentiment is a freebie from Elegant Word Art by Bethany and I have cut it out using a Quickutz cookie cutter die and mounted on 3d foam, as is the image. The snowflakes are a Spellbinders to which I have added a couple of gemstones.

We have had so much snow in Birmingham last weekend and some of it still remains but I still never tire of Snowmen images and tis one is such a cutie, I can me using it again J

Materials Used in this card are as follows:-
Card Size – 6” x 4”
Images – Snowy Day by Birdie Brown
Sentiment – Freebie by WordArt by Bethany
Paper – Wrapping paper from Paperchase
Tools - Letraset Promarkers & Flexmarkers, Spellbinders die, Quickutz cookie cutter die, white gel pen, 3d foam
Embellishments – miscellaneous gems
Techniques - Diecutting

Party Cat

Birdie Brown is celebrating her 2nd birthday and has two challenges this month to celebrate. I love Torico’s images and was lucky recently to have won some money to spend in Etsy stores and bought several of the new images. The one I used on this card is Party Cat, I know a couple of people who adore kitties and would love this as a birthday card.

I chose a sketch from The House That Stamps Built and rotated it to fit the image which has been coloured in with Promarkers and Flexmarkers in bright primary colours.

The yellow card blank has been trimmed along the edge with a Fiskars punch leaving the white inside showing as a contrast. The paper is from the Happy Birthday pack by Dovecraft. I used some curling ribbon to cover the join on the paper edge and some funky fibres to which I have attached 2 balloon shaped brads. The sentiment was a freebie and is perfect to go with the image.

Happy 2nd Birthday Birdie Brown, I hope you will be celebrating many more J

Materials Used in this card are as follows:-

Birdie Brown Amigurumi Bear

Birdie Brown has a challenge this month to use this fabulous image Amigurumi Bear which she has kindly given away as a freebie. As the challenge ends on the last day of the month I am cutting it a bit fine to say the least…….

I do love working with Torico’s images and have a number of freebies that I obtained from her old blog and have loved using them. I like the cute little characters and the clean lines to the images.
I coloured this little cutie with my Promarkers and Flexmarkers adding lots of texture to the fur by blending colours and adding lighter colours to the ‘fur’ until I was happy with it. I kept to a red & black colour scheme as I knew I wanted to use the paper at the bottom of the card which is a wrapping paper from Paperchase. The red is flocked so it has a lovely soft texture. Take a Tip from me and if you have a Paperchase store or concession near you have a look at their papers. You get a massive sheet which is equivalent to 8 pieces of A4 paper and they are usually only a few pounds, fabtastic value for money compared to the average paper pad costs.

I have used sketch 3 from I [Heart} Sketches at Delightful Inspiration. If you don’t already do this new weekly sketch then do yourself a favour and pop over there. If you enter you get a $1 dollar voucher which is valid for 3 months to spend in the store at From The Heart. The great thing is that you can save them up and get some of Faith’s gorgeous images for free!! This is an absolute no brainer people so get in on it J

The Spotty and heart papers came from a Me To You pad that came free with a magazine, perfect small pattern to follow the sketch but give the focus to the image and the lovely paper on the bottom. Finally I used a sentiment from my stash but just added a think white border around it so the black didn’t get lost in the paper.

So this will be my final card for January. I cannot believe we are already one month into 2013, I’ve got a feeling it’s going to quickly again this year…..

Materials Used in this card are as follows:-

Card Size – 6” Square
Papers – Flocked heart wrapping paper from Paperchase, spotty & heart Me To You freebie from magazine
Sentiment – from Stash
Tools - Letraset Promarkers & Flexmarkers, small ink pad
Techniques - Distressing

Little Snowman

Another of my Christmas cards from my last minute cramming session. Will someone please remind me that next year I need to be more pro-active and make them more consistently throughout the year…. Maybe I need to be on a Christmas challenge DT too J

I ADORE snowmen and this cute smiley one is from Birdie Brown and is called Little Snowman. He is coloured with Promarkers & Flexmarkers and I added some glossy accents to his coal eyes and mouth. A smattering of Stickles glitter glue has been added to his pom pom and scarf trim. He is matted onto a scrap of blue card from my oddments box and I added some Papermania star gems around the main image.

I am rather proud of this card as it is all from scraps J The paper is the last of a sheet of Imaginisce iridescent paper which has a lovely sheen to it. There is even an offcut of blue card that had been embossed with a Cutlebug folder and I used a silver waxy rub-on to highlight the pattern. To finish I added a sentiment from my stash with 2 more of the little gems.

Well with all the wet weather and flooding we are having in the UK there is absolutely no chance of us building a snowman, however on the other side of the Atlantic I see there are massive snowstorms so I do hope my American pals stay safe!

Sentiment – from stash
Paper – Imaginisce
