AJ The Race Car Driver

It's my Brother in Law's birthday tomorrow and this is the card I have made for him using a fab dig by Stamping Boutique. I have stayed with the red white and blue theme as I have been enjoying making cards in these colours and love how vibrant it is. I think it may become a favourite colour scheme for male cards :)

I have used a sketch form Eat Sleep Stamp Thursday for the layout and more of the blue Colorbok star paper which I still had out from the last couple of cards I made. I only have a small amount of the sheet left so may well incorporate it into another card rather than add it to the mountain of scraps I am sure we all have.

I have of course coloured my image with Promarkers. It seems as if I can't make a card without them these days. Using a graphics programme I added the number 1 to the front of the car. I also created a star with the You're #1 sentiment in it as he is a great guy and has made Paul's sister so very happy. This is her second marriage and all we have ever wanted is for her and our nephew to be happy and settled. He works very hard running his own business with my SIL and after a long hard slog it is starting to show the rewards for them. He is also a fabulous stable influence on our nephew and has instilled really good values into his life so he is definitely a number 1 guy.

If you want to snaffle the sentiment for yourself I have attached the files below. You are more than welcome to take them if they are of use to you. I would appreciate it if you leave me some love and link back to me with any creations you make. They are in both JPG and PNG format. Just double click on the image to enlarge and save to your computer.

CCM Spots & Stripes

Over at Crafty Cardmakers we have a new challenge today which is to use both spots & stripes on your project.

As I was making a card for another DT I am on I decided to work with the same base colours of Red White and Blue and coloured Mr Gnome but Digital Delights by Louby Lou with Promarkers. Although I take part in many challenges it is not often that I limit myself to such a small colour palette but there is actually something quite freeing about only using 3 colours and sticking to it instead of just colouring an image whatever colours you fancy. Who knew? Anyhoo I thought Mr Gnome would make a fab card to welcome someone to their new home, perhaps with a gnome gift tee hee!! (I actually quite like them but haven't got one yet....)

The base card is covered with Colorbok starry paper and not having any stripy red paper I used some red spotty ribbon and laid it down in stripes on white card. I added a red mat to the image and then used some paler blue striped paper by DCVW, this is ten mounted on 3D foam. The sentiment is by Tiddly Inks and has been matted onto red card and also on 3D foam. I was thinking about adding some toadstools on the side of the card but resisted the urge to keep adding things. Even though it is a large card at 8" square I am TRYING to learn that less is more in some cases and just because it will fit doesn't mean it should be there. (Now if I could only do that with my craft room, I know my hubby would be pleased LOL)

Having had a sabbatical from Crafty Cardmakers for the last month due to issues at home I know the girls have made some fantastic projects and I am so proud to be amongst a fabulous group of ladies with diverse crafting styles. I hope we will inspire you to take the plunge into this challenge and look forward to seeing your projects.

Materials Used in this card are as follows:-
Card Size - 8" square
Sketch -partly based on Sketches By Carly #34
Paper - Colorbok & DCWV
Embellishments - Ribbon
Tools - Good old scissors ;)
Techniques - Fussy Cutting

Happileigh Scrappin' #28

It is Sue's turn to set the challenge theme at Happileigh Scrappin' this week and in honour of the impending Independence Day celebrations she would like to see Star and/or Stripes on your creation.

I have to be honest I was a little stumped as I wanted to do something with the red white and blue colouring but have never made a patriotic card so didn't know where to start. Leigh saved the day by designing this gorgeous image called Patriotic Kasey which is a new release in the Special Occasion section of the Happileigh Scrappin' store. It is a fabulous image and I really hope I have done it justice. She is of course coloured with Promarkers and I am quite pleased with how vibrant it is. I matted this onto red card and it is layered up on 3d foam.

I used the latest sketch at Carly's Sketches for the layout with one of my scalloped edge 8" card blanks. The paper is one I have had in my stash for YEARS I think it might have been from a big Colorbok pad I had from QVC but can't be sure...... I didn't have any red and white striped paper so I have used strips of spotty ribbon on white card then added ribbon bows. These are topped with buttons which have some of my red white and blue twine I got recently (sssh Paul doesn't know, you're all in on the secret right!!)

As a final embellishment I cut out some stars from scrap card and mounted on 3d foam. The white ones have been wrapped in the twine in a Spirelli fashion and I added faux stitching around the edges. In all I am really, really pleased with how it has turned out as it kind of grew as it went along.

Leigh has got some smashing offers on in the store at the moment in the Summer Celebration Sale. With every purchase you get a an Old Glory background and sentiment free........

Also for every 3 images you purchase you can choose an extra one absolutely free. There are loads of fab images just itching to be played with so you will find it easy to spend your pennies I promise you :)

Please pop on over to see the lovely creations my Happi Sisters have added. There are lots of lovely cards to feast your eyes upon with oodles of embellishments.

Remember, for our challenges you don't need to use a Happileigh Scrappin' image but if you do your entry counts twice and with freebies available here it is easy to use one of Leigh's fabulous digis.

We would love to see lots of entries in this challenge. Leigh gives away her lovely digis to the top 3 so it is well worth entering and me and the DT love to see your creations, so come on over to

Materials Used in this card are as follows:-
Card Size - 8" square

I was given a fab wedding image by Stitchy called Hitched. I coloured the cute couple with Promarkers and used one of my new Nestabilities dies to cut out the design. For the layout I used the latest Deconstructed Sketch. I used a pretty paper from Dovecraft for the background adding some ink around the edge to define it as it got lost in the cream background. I used a red lace trim that I have had for ages to pull out the colour of the roses.

I was struggling to find a sentiment and remembered some epoxy stickers I bought YEARS ago and have never opened YAY for starting to use stash up!! I mounted the sticker on a scrap of card, added a faux stitching border and cut around that. I think the border emphasises the writing and am pleased with how it turned out. I added a punched heart courtesy of Martha Stewart, the most expensive punch I own (because it came from Hobbycraft) but I wanted it so much and had Christmas vouchers to spend so it wasn't too bad :)

I am looking forward to seeing the cards that are entered into this challenge and hope to see lots of entries from you.

Materials Used in this card are as follows:-
Card Size - A5
Papers - Wedding collection (Dovecraft)
Image - Hitched by Stitchy Bear

Embellishments - red lace trim, red ribbon for bow, epoxy heart sticker
Techniques - Distressing with ink pad, fax stitching, layering with 3d foam pads.

Happileigh Scrappin' #27

Did You Miss me ?? Did you Miss Me??

Woohoo I am back making cards!! I have really missed making cards and doing challenges. A death in the family is always a blow but at the same time as having a complete bathroom re-fit in a small house is really not a good combination. Couldn't put either off so just had to deal with it a fortunately my MIL lives up the road so we could shower at her home :)

Anyhoo just in time for this challenge the sun has come out in Birmingham today and it is a glorious and Happi day, just like my card :)

It is my turn to set the challenge theme at Happileigh Scrappin' this week and I want to see bright colours
on your creations this week. We are talking oranges, reds, yellows, blues and greens. No pastels okay!! Happi colours make Happi cards.

I used this fabulous image called Jenny Bunches which is a new release in the Girly Girl section of the Happileigh Scrappin' store today. It is a beautiful image and I loved colouring her in. She looks like a very Happi little girl and suits my red, orange and yellow colours perfectly.

I used the latest sketch at Midnight Madness for the layout and used a gorgeous flowery glittered card stock fro DCWV for the grid pattern. The image has decoupage layers on the had and also the flower which are popped up using 3D foam. I added some Prima flowers in matching shades and actually managed to use 6, yes 6 of my mini buttons. I left it without a sentiment as it was perfectly balanced as it was and thus it makes it suitable for any occasion :)

Leigh has got some smashing offers on in the store at the moment in the Summer Celebration Sale. With every purchase you get a an Old Glory background and sentiment free........

For my card I was able to work with a gorgeous image by Priyanka at Gillu's Gallery called Waiting For You part 2. I have to confess I am not usually a fairy person but this one is beautiful. I love how delicate the design is and that you can see part of the face in profile with the cute eyelashes.

I coloured the image with Promarkers in soft blues and greens as I wanted to keep it delicate. I have added Glamour Dust glitter to the wings for a bit of sparkle. The layout of the card is from a sketch at Tuesday Trio challenge.

Materials Used in this card are as follows:-
Card Size - 6" Square with scalloped edges
