Birdie Brown's DIY Dad

Birdie Brown has a monthly challenge and is very generous with her freebies. This month we get to work with DIY Dad. I thought it would make a great image for a new home card.

I used this weeks sketch from I {Heart to Sketch} for the layout as I thought the larger panel on the left would make a great wall that was being papered by DIY Dad.

I coloured the image with Promarkers and Flexmarkers in Browns and blues which are my favourite colours for a male themed card. I found some really really old papers from a Male orientated magazine pack that were perfect to go with it. I ‘wallpapered’ the panel leaving one roll curled up going down the wall. I cut the same length of paper as the first but added a core of scrap cardstock in the centre to strengthen it and then some of the strong red backed tape to make sure it doesn’t unfurl. I also added a roll of paper as an embellishment.

The brown cardstock is textured scraps from DCWV and I used a Nestabilities die to cut the sentiment panel which is a very old rub on and a punched house.

That’s my card for this month’s challenge and how on earth did it get to be the end of May already? I honestly do not know where this year is disappearing to……

Materials Used in this card are as follows:-

Single Rose RSVP

The challenge at Beccy’s Place this month is anything goes with one of Beccy’s images. I was very fortunate to win the Rose Bouquet Set last month and felt it would be particularly appropriate to use this set for my card this month.

My favourite image is the Single Rose, just sheer perfection and so very detailed. My favourite colour of rose is yellow but as I had just made a card recently with the same colours I went more towards the pink spectrum for a change.

I used Promarkers to colour my image and added darker colours to the centre of the rose and petal edges. I used a border due from Crafter’s Companion for the trim at the bottom and layered it up with 3d foam.

I used a sketch from CAS Colours and Sketches for the layout. The paper is a Pink Petticoat one from a magazine freebie. The ribbon is a scrap from DCWV and the sentiment is a rub on from Royal & Langnickel.

We have been invited to another wedding reception and I needed to do an RSVP for it so I felt this image would be perfect for it. I don’t do CAS very often as it is I really have to fight the urge not to fill the space up with an embellishment but at least the paper is pretty and not covered up with loads of added elements and of course the image is perfection and needs very little to complement it anyway J

Materials Used in this Project are as follows:-
Card size – 5” Square
Paper – Pink Petticoat magazine freebie
Sentiment – Rub on from Royal & Langnickel
Tools – Letraset Promarkers & Flexmarkers, Crafter’s Companion Grace Frame border die, 3d foam pads
Embellishments – DCWV Ribbon
Techniques – Diecutting

Get Well Soon Naomi

The fabulous Lisa from Decosse’s Dynamite Doodles is such a loving and giving person and I am proud to count her amongst my friends I have net in blogland. If you have never been to her blog before I urge, nay implore you to pop over. Have a mooch, read all the lovely things she has to say and especially the things other people respond back. You will very quickly get a feel for this special lady, her values and very giving nature.

She is fabulous at promoting other people and works tirelessly for the people she backs, one of which is Naomi from Creative Bug On The Loose. I have followed her for quite a while and she is very generous with her digi freebies, the image above Sick Lolly being one. Naomi has not been very well so Lisa stepped in to do some posts for her and asked us to make cards for Naomi using this image. I did respond back saying I would do my best but had a lot of DT work and to be honest I have been so tired these last few weeks. I managed to get the image coloured but ran out of time to make the card.

I have now made it using the latest sketch from I {Heart} Card Sketches.

I rotated the sketch to fit the design and used a Nestabilities die to cut a mat from Kraft cardstock. I inked the edges and mounted on 3d foam. The image was coloured with Promakers & Flexmarkers, fussy cut and mounted on thin foam pads. The paper is a magazine freebie from Pink Petticoat. I used some scraps of card from my box and rounded the edges adding a couple of white rub ons to the blue square. They were a  blog candy prize without packaing so not sure where they came from. The sentiment is a digi freebie from Diana All About Me.

Naomi, I truly hope your problems ease soon and thank you for your generous freebies.

Materials Used in this Project are as follows:-
Card size – A6
Paper – Pink Petticoat magazine freebie
Sentiment – Diana All About Me
Tools – Letraset Promarkers & Flexmarkers, Nestabilities dies, 3d foam pads, small ink pad, Corner rounder punch

This week my card is using this gorgeous image Fuchsia & Hummingbird from Delicious Doodles. It is such a pretty image and was crying out to be coloured.

Using Promarkers and Flexmarkers I used shades of pinks and purples to colour the bulk of the image. I printed out a second layer for the hummingbird so I could decoupage it and trimmed into the wings so they are layered up with different heights of 3d foam.
I used an old sketch from Sunday Sketch & Stamp for the layout and used this to position my papers which are from the Woodland Friends collection by Docrafts . The ribbon is from my stash and the sentiment is a rub in from Royal & Langnickel. Finally I added some stickles glitter glue to the end of the stamens.

The sentiment is particularly poignant as when I saw this image it immediately reminded me of one of the most amazing nature experiences I have ever had. When we went to the USA in 2001 part of the holiday was in LA. We went to Santa Monica on the bus and were walking towards the beach past residential houses, turned a corner and came face to face with a tiny hummingbird sipping the nectar from Hibiscus flowers growing amongst a hedge in someone’s front garden. It was absolutely fascinating to be so close to this little creature, you could hear it’s wings flapping so many times and it skittered from one flower to another and wasn’t in the least bit bothered that I was only a foot away from it. Even after so many years this memory brings me so much happiness and I am sure it will be something that will remain in my soul forever.
