Happileigh Scrappin' #6

Hello everybody peeps. It's Monday and that means it is time for another challenge at Happileigh Scrappin'.

Thanks very much to everyone who joined in with the blog hop last week. It was a great way for you to meet us the new Design Team and it was lovely to receive such warm comments from you.

Leigh has changed the challenge slightly so it is easier for people to enter.

The challenge rules are changing.
You may now use any image from any artist to enter in the challenge. (Inappropriate images will be withdrawn)
You will receive 1 entry point for your entry.
If you use a Happileigh Scrappin' image you will receive an extra entry point.
The winners will now be chosen randomly.
There will still be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place drawings.

Leigh has posted a photo up on the challenge as an inspiration. I hope we will see more people entering the challenges. Leigh is very generous with her freebies and her designs are lovely to work with so hop on over and join in the fun :)

My card was made with the Kasey Elbows on Pillow image and I have used Promarkers to colour her. It was a very rare occasion for me in that I had coloured the image before I chose the paper. Very unusual for me I went straight to this paper and it was a perfect match. Don't you just love it when that happens? I used the latest sketch #48 over at Truly Scrumptious for the layout. She's not dreaming of summer but definitely thinking of someone :)

The base card is a scalloped edge K & Co which has glitter spots and lines on it. It is very feint in the photo but much more visible in the flesh. The backing paper is a magazine freebie by Bo Bunny and the 'Thinking of You' sentiment vellum is another hoarded item from Craftwork Cards. I had a great value pack of vellum from them years ago in the sale and have hardly used any. In the spirit of my New Years Resolution I am cracking open that stash.

The ribbon and bow are Papermania, the turquoise ribbon was just a scrap in my stash, the pearls are by Kanban from a QVC kit and the little butterfly was on a piece of kids jewellery from Claire's Accessories. I love having a mooch in their sales as you can sometimes get some smashing charms for pennies. They sell their broken jewellery off in bargain bins and they are great for cardmaking.

I am well chuffed. I have found out this evening I was selected as one of the Top 3 for my cross stitched Fabric Box over at Aly's Sunday Challenge.

Considering there were 364 entries I am amazed by this and very proud to display by flashing blinkie :)

Glitterbabe #26 Rose Bouquet

I made this card using a lovely digi from Glitterbabe which was a freebie from I Did It Creations blog last week. They give away free digi's which the DT have used in their sample cards. I had intended to get this card linked up to go in the last challenge but the light was awful and I couldn't take a decent photo. I suppose that's what we get for the nights drawing in so early at this time of year, not great for taking photos with glitter on !!

Anyhoo I coloured the image with my trusty Promarkers and added lots of stickles to the flowers and bow. The base of the card is covered with a spotty paper from the Papermania Summer Blooms pad and the green is from the Papermania Rose Garden pad. Both have been edged with ink to make the panels stand out more. I used the sketch layout from Glitterbabe's current challenge #26 so I don't feel quite so bad about missing the IDIC challenge.

The lace is a gorgeous find. It was in one of those bargain bins at a local haberdashery as there should have been a ribbon threaded in the centre so was really cheap. It is great for me though as I can easily thread a narrow ribbon through it from my stash mountain. This ribbon was spotty on one side and plain on the other. The spots didn't look classy so I opted for the plain and I am much happier with it.

The little tag, I am so proud I used it. It is from Craftwork Cards and I bought a load of bumper items in the sale YEARS ago and I ashamed to say the majority has never been used. One of my missions this year is to use up stash that I have hoarded for a very long time, hopefully to make more cards for general occasions so that I have them ready and to send Thankyou cards more than I ever have. I never have any in my box so end up not sending them and I should break that habit. I have attached it on with a bit of paper string and attached one of my gorgeous but hoarded Papermania pearl brads.

My Blog Has Attitude Award

Now the for the rules click the blog award and it will take to to the relevant section on the Digis With Attitude blog. I need to tell you 3 unique things about me and nominate 5 blogs. Here goes....

3 Things about me :)
  • I am a terrible hoarder and have kept every single crafty thing I have bought since I started card making in 2002. I want to purge but cannot bear to part with any of it (I am sure that will be familiar to a lot of my fellow crafters)
  • My Favourite film of all time is Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence starring David Bowie and Ryuichi Sakamoto. I have loved it since I was a teenager even though I'm not keen on David Bowie or his music. The soundtrack is fabulous and I developed a love of Ryuichi Sakamoto's music as a result.
  • Love at first sight really happens and I am proof of it. I sat next to my hubby, a complete stranger at a Pet Shop Boys concert in July 1989, got together a week later and we have been together ever since. I am very lucky to have met my life partner at only 17 and we love one another dearly.

Lisa at Lisa's Little Blog Home - Love this special lady soooo much. She's a good friend and bloody amazing at colouring with Promarkers. Great to see her crafty mojo has made a comeback :)

Sarn at Chocolate is NOT just for Breakfast - A good friend who gave me lots and love and support at a time when I badly needed it. She is a fabulous crafter and has a huge stamp collection.

Vix at Vixykins - The head honcho at Crafty Cardmakers where I am on the DT. Vix was the first person to see my potential to inspire others and if it hadn't been for doing the DT cards for the blog during 2010 I think I would have probably given up crafting altogether. She is so very talented and is fabulous with Promarkers.

Lisa at Wishcraft - Fellow teamie at Crafty Cardmakers who has just gone from success to success. She have a lovely bright style to her cards just like me and quite often uses stash that i just HAVE to have. She's also got a bit of a fetish for paper like moi :)

Challenge Wins :)




Having been away for a few days I have been playing catch up with the challenge blogs and have had a great start to the New Year


On StampitCrazy I won a lovely digital image of a Snowman for my Little Birdie card. It's such a shame as they only had 5 entries so they awarded a prize to each one. Maybe not the best way to win a prize.

At Studio 313 the random generator thingie chose me and I have won $25 worth of digi images from MC5 range, just need to choose my lovelies :) . This was for one of my fave blingy Christmas Cards Let It Snow


And then to top it all off I was chosen as a Top 3 at The Crafty Pad for my cross stitched Fabric Covered Box. Our friend Sue absolutely loved it and winning a badge is just the icing on the cake.

Now the important info is over I can tell you all about my card :)

The digi image Kasey's Birthday has been printed out 3 times.

Layer 1 the base layer is the whole image, Layer 2 is the dress and the hair and Layer 3 is the arms and sleeves. I have decoupaged the layers with 3d foam squares and the image has been coloured with Promarkers.

The scalloped mat has been highlighted with a purple inkpad around the edges and Stickles glitter glue. I have added gems to the hairslides and shoes for buckles. The flowers in the corners are the confetti type which shimmer with an irridescent pink and purple and I have added pink gem centres.

The square card has been covered with a paper from Dovecraft Eastern Blooms collection which had the 2 butterflies on it. I have embellished them with gems and some glitter and added trails. the purple butterfly has been made with a Martha Stewart punch. I have folded and glued 3 together so that they are really 3d and added some bling. The card has been finished off with some lace and a sentiment from my stash.

Leigh's images are so much fun to work with. They have such a bold and clean style to them, are excellent to decoupage and add dimension to them. I am really enjoying working with them and I am sure you will too.

Leigh's got some fabulous new designs that are being brought out and I know you won't be disappointed.

Happy New Year

The lovely Leigh from Happi Scrappin' Doodles gave away a freebie on CDAC which is a great New Year image.

Having started my Christmas Cards late this year I only had enough time to make family cards and those for Paul's work colleagues so a lot of people missed out on cards so I thought I could send some New Year cards instead.

I had printed out a number of digi images a few nights ago and was colouring them with my Promarkers on Christmas Day whilst Paul was playing with his new steering wheel on the PS3. It was pretty much as perfect as could be :)

The backing paper is a magazine freebie by Funky Hand which has been torn and folded back a bit, and also distressed on the edges. I used a little serrated clay tool and it really roughs it up. I have to admit though it kinda hurts to tear pretty paper. I don't think distressing paper is me, I loves my pretty papers too much....

The image has been coloured with Promarkers, sakura glitter pen and some stickles bubbles and was cut out using a Nellie Snellen die. I have inked the edge and mounted it on 3d foam pads.

The swirl is a self adhesive one from Doodlebug which has got lots of silver glitter on it (yes, there is glitter EVERYWHERE, but that's what makes it fun LOL)

I have added gems in the corners and the sentiment is a peel off sticker.

Stampin With The Dragon #16 Winner


OMG, I have just been going through my email and there was a Google Alert and my name had popped up on Stampin With The Dragon. I have just found out I was picked by random.org as the winner of Challenge #16 with my Little Birdie card and have won 5 digi images.

Considering so many people have been entering the challenges lately with so many amazing Christmas projects I really cannot believe how lucky I have been.

Make It Crafty Bog Hop


I have just taken part in a blog hop over at Make it Crafty and have to say the creations are just absolutely amazing. I can never in a million years envisage me being able to achieve a level of expertise that these ladies have shown and am in awe of their talent.

They have got some amazing news at the end of it and so many chances to win prizes but you will need to hurry as it ends today!

Even if you don't enter it is well worth hopping just to see the amazing creations.

I Won at Pattie's Creations


Oh wow, I had some amazing news last night from Theresa who is on the DT at Pattie's Creations. I had a cryptic message on CDAC to go check Pattie's Challenge blog and found out I had won last week's challenge for my Candle Box.

My prize was $10 worth of digital stamps from her Etsy store. I have chosen some smashing designs, 3 Christmas ones, a piggy bank and some lovely daisies. I ham having the most amazing luck lately and can't quite believe it. I feel like Christmas has come early. More importantly though, the boost it has given me in my self confidence is the greatest thing. The way I have felt recently it is something money just cannot buy but clearly crafty achievements can :)

Well it's now Christmas Eve, if it's not done or bought by now then it isn't going to be. Paul and I exchanged cards last night, I am glad to say he loved my owls card, he said he thought it was my best ever.

He is still at work today but will hopefully be finishing early. We are going to meet his Sister at the German Market in Birmingham later and have a bit of fun before the main event. Just got one more Christmas card to finish off and then I'm officially done........ I'll be back later :)

2nd Place at Happileigh Scrappin'

Woohoo, I have just found out today that I won 2nd place in the challenge I entered at Happileigh Scrappin.



My prize is 2 of Leigh's digi images of my choice and I get a special blinkie for my blog.

There is challenge #3 on the blog at the moment with another lovely freebie and if you become a member of the Crafters Digital Art Center (CDAC) Leigh has got a group and has just given away another freebie. If you are not already a member I would urge anyone who uses digis to become one as it is a great community with so many wonderful freebies.

Cards for Men Bloghop Winner

Woohoo, I am absolutely delighted that I was the winner of the main prize at the recent Bloghop over at Cards For Men.

My prize is over £40 worth of Dovecraft goodies which the lovely Donna has posted out and should be delivered between Christmas and New Year. It will be like having an extra crafty Christmas gift.

I very rarely enter bloghops for the sake of it as there are so many people who enter and the odds of winning prizes seems quite low, however, if it is support a blog/group I am particularly a fan of I will to help support them and all the hard work they do for us. That makes winning all the more special.

Happy Birthday CJ

First of all, sorry for the poor photograph of this card, we are in the middle of a massive snow storm at the moment and the birthday man is coming round so I needed to take photo before he sees it.

Christmas Day heralds the birthday of a very special man, my nephew CJ is 14 (can't believe he is 14 and he is taller than me, mind you that's not hard at 5'4" LOL)

Anyhoo, I luvs him to bits. He was quite a difficult child for a number of years but thankfully he grew out of that stage and is turning into a lovely young man who I am very proud of. He is in the Army Cadets, previously in the Sea Cadets and the sense of discipline it has given him has completely transformed him and got him back on the straight and narrow.

He is really good at football and until recently that was his sport of choice. He is now playing Ice Hockey and goes skating for 5 hours on a Sunday. He has my utmost admiration, I honestly don't think I could manage 5 minutes. I've never tried it but knowing how accident prone I am I am pretty sure it would not be a good idea......

Obviously, I wanted to incorporate his new sport into his card so went searching for a suitable image on the tinterweb. I happened upon this one which was from a colouring book site. I have coloured it in with Promarkers and added a bit of Sakura clear glitter to the puck and the blades of the ice skates. I used sketch #7 at Crafters Companion for the layout of this card.

The spotty patterned paper is a freebie from an issue of Creative Cardmaking Inspirations. The starry paper is from a Dovecraft male set. I only have a couple of scraps of it left, it has been one of my most used papers.

I used a Martha Stewart punch for the edge of the mirri card, I thought it would emulate the edge on the ice skates and it embosses as well, it is the first time I have used it and I have had it ages. It was a particularly good Ebay purchase.

The chipboard circles are from a Colorbok kit I got from QVC, the birthday sentiment is from Craftwork Cards and the gems are from Paperchase.

Top 3 at Scrap Creations


Gooodness only knows how I missed this last week on my challenge hunt but I have found out this morning that the Forever Friends Candle I made for my MIL has earned me a top 3 at Scrap Creations challenge.

I really am so pleased when my projects get chosen for things like this as it gives me so much confidence knowing it wasn't just a random draw thing but was actually picked out from amongst the other entries. When you see so many amazing creations entered into these challenges I honestly don't think I stand a chance against them and to know that I stood out makes me feel like I am on cloud 9.

Donny Winter

Again, another winter themed card inspired by all the snow we have in the UK at the moment.

I have used this great freebie from the Stampfairy. There is a whole range of this cute teddy called Donny and it was so lovely to colour in with my Promarkers. I am loving shading and getting more practice with colouring them in properly. I always loved colouring in as a kid and for Christmas would get a brand new set of felt tips and a new colouring book. It's nice to know that I can still enjoy colouring in at 39 years old and have a legitimate excuse for doing so :) I now just do it with grown up pens instead....

I used the sketch #133 at Friday Sketchers for the layout. The main backing of the card is silver mirri card, it was a bugger to get s photo that didn't have my reflection in it LOL. The snowflake paper is by K & Co and the mesh with snowflake fluff I think I got from the NEC a couple of years ago. It's got a nice texture to it and looks good against the silver.

The snowball has got loads of stickles smeared on it so it glistens. The thin velvet ribbon and sentiment are from my stash.
